Sicco Mansholt – Een Goede Europeaan is an exhibition about a Dutch agricultural politician that radically changed the industry and created the agricultural landscape as we know it today. The exhibition charts different stages of Mansholt’s career. His rise from farmer to politician, his fall when his agricultural policy as EEC commissioner led to excessive food surplus and his radical change of heart at the end of his life.
Newspapers and political cartoons played an important role in Mansholt’s career. For the design of the poster I asked political cartoonist Hajo de Reijger to collaborate and draw Mansholt to fit in the L-shaped space that the New Institute identity provides and combined the drawing with newspaper headlines.
The archival material shown in the exhibition grows exponentially, parallel to the growing industrialisation of farming in Europe.
